What Motivation do I need?

There are two types of motivation intrinsic and extrinsic. Both of these break down into other categories, however these are the headers they are under. Intrinsic motivation is motivation which is given to yourself by your self 'within'. Extrinsic motivation is external motivation therefore motivation given to you from another person or external factor.

When in recovery there are a number of stages in which people will be guaranteed to go through which will cause them to require a mixture of both intrinsic and extrinsic motivation. When you first start recovering the motivation you will most likely require and receive is extrinsic motivation. This is because you are still in the deep depths of your illness and for most it can be difficult to see out of it and not understand the benefits yourself. Which does require for someone e.g. your psychiatrist, psychologist, family and friends. To give you lots of extrinsic motivation. As they can see clearly why recovery is good and why you should keep going, as in the first stages of recovery mot individuals, including myself were in denial we were ill. Therefore getting us motivated to recover was more or less impossible.
However as an individual does get better and more recovered they will require less extrinsic motivation as they themselves can now supply themselves with intrinsic motivation. This is a result of them being less in their illness. Therefore they understand themselves more of why recovery is a good idea and why they should keep going. Allowing them to motivate themselves.

As motivation is key to recovering from any mental illness, as without it the person suffering will not recover. And without the right motivation the individual will not get better.

Just a little talk on mental illness'

People think recovering from a mental illness' are easy. That's its just becoming happy again, or that its just becoming to be less excitable, or that's its simply just eating. These are some, of a few many little things people expect us to become. But its not. Its not just eating again, and its simply not just becoming happy. Its about re-training our bodies, its about changing the chemical balances in our brains, and most importantly is about learning to love ourselves.

Not all mental illness' for all people result in the individual hating themselves. But for most it does result in this. Having a mental illness destroys a persons confidence, their happiness, it stops them from being able to see how worthy they are, how magical they are. Because their illness shows them that they are not. It consumes them. Creating its own little world inside its victims head. Only with therapy, and for some, medication that this little world is destroyed.

Not all mentally ill people receive medication. But some do. For some people its a simple pill, or a simple liquid they must take, for others their medication is food. But none the less all medication is important. And for some without it can be life threatening and cause them to only continue in their illness.

This is just some food for thought.
